The State Theatre has been an important part of the Zumbrota community for nearly ninety years, and it can be a vibrant part of the future as well. It deserves to be part of Zumbrota’s preserved heritage, but it needs our help to survive and thrive in the 21st century.
To provide this help, the Zumbrota Area Arts Council (ZAAC) and area citizens have come together to form the Encore Renovation Campaign.
The Encore Renovation Campaign envisions a State Theatre that will serve as the ‘art and soul’ of Zumbrota. The renovated State Theatre will help showcase downtown Zumbrota as an attractive and charming place to do business and live, with attractions and events for our youth and families. The Encore Renovation Campaign is about more than just ‘the arts’ — it is about renovating a source of entertainment that can be enjoyed by all area residents.
Acting on behalf of, and with the support of the Zumbrota community, the Encore Renovation Campaign will raise $650,000 to buy the building, repair it, and get movies playing again, in addition to promoting many additional activities and uses. Our goal is “Movies and More!” This project represents a commitment to Zumbrota’s economic vitality, our quality of life, and our families and youth. In renovating the State Theatre, the citizens of Zumbrota will be part of a national trend that works to preserve our community heritage and social fabric.
The building renovation will be done in two phases. Phase One focuses on restoration, openness, and accessibility. The initial $650,000 will fund this phase, as well as purchase the building and cover other necessary expenses. Phase Two, will focus on flexibility, unifying the State as a venue for an even greater variety of uses.
The State Theatre is managed by Director Ronda Anderson-Sand and governed by a board of committed citizen-volunteers, the Zumbrota Area Arts Council.
