Take molten metal, flying sparks, high energy rhythms and your own creativity and you have got an experience of a lifetime. Right here in Zumbrota on Saturday, September 29th at 7 pm, the Zumbrota Area Arts Council will host an iron pour led by Kelly and his team of foundry artists. You must plan ahead now to be part of this amazing event and have your very own artistic creation in solid iron.
Get the whole family involved in making this permanent piece of art. Think house numbers, your footprint, a favorite symbol, a family crest, a picture of your dog, a stepping stone design, whatever you can imagine. Plus, you will take home a piece of the historic state theater as the iron is salvaged from radiators that heated the theater.
June 16th: Secure your mold at Art in East Park during Covered Bridge Weekend in order to have your tile poured September 29. Come to the ZAAC booth at East Park to receive your materials and instructions from the metal artists for designing your block. This is your only chance to get the clay-like mold that is super easy to work with and simple enough for children to do.
Between June and September call Crossings at Carnegie at 732-7616 to get your own tile! Tiles are only 30 dollars each.
September 8th: If you want to carve, chisel, and dust away sand to create your block, come to a booth near Crossings during Art Splash in early September. You can reserve your tile at Crossings this summer and pick up your 8”X8” block for carving at Art Splach. The metal artists will be available to teach the carving technique for creating your design. This will be your last chance to get a block, so don't miss out.
September 29th: The sparks fly! The foundry experts and their big fiery furnace roll into town and stoke it up! The music will start and food and bar open at 7pm. To really spice up the night we will enjoy the spectacular industrial flavored music of Savage Aural Hotbed. At dusk the iron is poured into your mold and after it cools you clean it off and take it home.
This is a free event! Everyone is welcome, bring your friends, family, and neighbors out to enjoy the hottest night of the year!
