State Theatre

The State Theatre will be temporarily closed for the summer of 2024, but exciting things are happening!  The restoration of the old lobby will be done during this time. We hope to have it completed in early fall, if not it will still be functional as a venue while we complete this project.

We are working on the fall schedule.
Additional shows will be added and ticket links up soon.

Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester explores the heavens

    Music of the Spheres
    April 28, 7:30 pm
    State Theater, Zumbrota

The heavens, the stars, “this brave o’erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire,” have intrigued, humbled and astonished humankind for all recorded history, inspiring great poetry and exquisite music. In recognition of our place in this starry universe, Choral Arts Ensemble will sing a program including This Shinging Night by Morten Lauridsen, Stars by Eriks Esenvalds, Choose Something Like a Star by Randall Thompson, Ballade to the Moon by Daniel Elder. We will also premiere a new piece by Minneapolis composer Carol Barnett setting Rabindranath Tagore’s poem, The Lost Star

On the lighter side, CAE will share some contemporary celestial-themed love songs such as Sun and Moon from Miss Saigon and the Lennon/McCartney classic I’ll Follow the Sun

Now in its 32nd season, Choral Arts Ensemble is an auditioned choir that has been making music throughout southeast Minnesota since its founding by Rick Kvam in 1985. Its volunteer members come from all over southeast Minnesota and encompass a wide variety professions and interests. Choral Arts Ensemble celebrates music’s power to delight and inspire with performances throughout the region. CAE programs music from all genres and historical eras and especially supports the creation of new music through its active commissioning program. To date, CAE has commissioned and/or premiered over 50 new choral works.
