The Rocky Horror Picture Show — October 25

Rocky HorrorIt's True–We're showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Zumbrota! Dig out your Rocky Horror costume, grab your friends and have some fun at Zumbrota's State Theatre!

This 1975 British musical comedy horror film is a cult classic with millions of fans around the world. A comic tribute to mid-twentieth century science fiction and B horror movies, the film has been elected by the Library of Congress to the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

The story involves newly engaged couple Brad and Janet who have a car breakdown on a dark and stormy night. While searching for help, they find themselves in the bizarre castle of transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Although traditionally shown at midnight, our local screening is at 7 PM.

We welcome your participation with props, HOWEVER, we will not allow you to bring food into the theatre (i.e. toast, hot dogs, rice) and you may NOT throw anything at the movie screen. Open flames are also not permitted.

Wondering what props to bring? We suggest party hats, toilet paper, playing cards, newspapers, small squirtguns, flashlights, rubber gloves, noisemakers, confetti, and a bell.

Rated R–people under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Tickets for all ages: $8

Doors open at 6:30. Wine and beer bar, popcorn, soda and candy are available.

We're kicking off the start of another school year with this high energy musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Join us for an informal Sing-Along Dance Party and Costume Contest to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this ever popular story!

It's 1959 in southern California. A summer romance between Sandy (Newton-John) and Danny (Travolta) is coming to a bittersweet close. Imagine their surprise when they find themselves both attending Rydell High. Can they stay together even though Danny has a bad-boy reputation to uphold as the leader of the Greasers, and Sandy's wholesome goodness just doesn't fit his image?

The Great Gatsby — May 16

gatsby-poster1Join us a for a FREE evening of fun at the State Theatre on Thursday, May 16. The evening starts at 6:30 with a brief lecture by noted Fitzgerald scholar David Page on the significance of F. Scott Fitzgerald's life in Minnesota as it relates to his writing career. Then we will be screening the 1974 Academy Award winning film "The Great Gatsby" starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.

Movie: Les Miserables — April 13

Les_Miserables_Winner of three Academy Awards, this 2012 film stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried in the proclaimed adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel. Set in 19th-century revolutionary France, Jean Valjean is a burly French peasant imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. Released after serving 19 years, he is then hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert for breaking his parole to start a better life. Valjean's new path crosses that of Fantine, a poor factory worker. His decision to care for her daughter Cosette changes their lives forever.

Rated PG-13. Showtime is 7 pm. Doors open at 6:15.

Movie Event: Sideways — March 22

936full-sideways-posterThis More Than a Movie showing brings you right into the film with our very own wine tasting pre-show event! Starting at 6 pm, wine expert Shannon Fitzgibbons will explain the ins and outs of wine and food pairings while you sample the wine and the food. ZZest will be catering artisan cheeses and other fine pastry. Tickets are $20 (movie admission included) and can be reserved by emailing statetheatre@zaac.org.

Make sure you reserve your tickets early–only 40 pre-show tickets are available!

Just interested in seeing the film? No worries. Movie-only tickets will be available at the door for our usual bargain price of $5. The film begins at 7 pm.

Nominated for five Oscars in 2005 (and winning one) "Sideways" stars Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen in a compassionate vintage comedy about friendship and all its imperfections. It follows two men who have reached middle age with not much to show for it but disappointment. They embark on a week long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle.

Sing Along with Mary Poppins – January 18

The magic of Mary Poppins is as timely as ever! Come sing along with us at a special showing on Friday, January 18, at 7 pm. $5 admission.

Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke delight us as they sing and dance through this Disney classic. Where else can you have a tea party on the ceiling? A fox hunt on merry-go-round horses?
