The Zumbrota Area Arts Council (ZAAC) has been working hard to secure and restore Zumbrota’s Historic State Theatre to provide an upgraded venue for community theater, musicals, local arts, and entertainment.
The State Theatre was built in 1921 and has served the community both as a movie theater
and as an entertainment venue. In 2011 ZAAC purchased the theatre from a private party.
Since then the theatre has continued to serve the community and surrounding areas with live
music, dance, plays, musicals, movies, author readings, and other events.
ZAAC Began its most recent capital campaign in 2021 when the theater celebrated its 100th
Anniversary. In addition to restoring the original lobby/foyer, this current campaign also
includes the restoration of the auditorium seats.
To help raise funds for seat restoration we have launched our “Take a Seat Campaign”.
Donors who contribute to this campaign will have an opportunity to have a seat named in
honor or memory of yourself or someone special with a small gold plaque located on the
back of each seat. What a wonderful way to be a part of this historic theatre and to honor
someone special in your life.
The cost is $100 per seat. The total cost of restoring each of these seats is considerably
higher but we decided to keep this campaign at a reasonable price so more people could
participate. We will gladly accept donations of more than $100 for each seat if you choose.
