Crossings’ 13th Annual Poet-Artist Collaboration exhibit is on display now through May 15, celebrating a pairing of the two art forms that allows poetry to inspire visual art of all kinds. Fifty poets and visual artists took part in this years’ exhibit, which can be seen free of charge during regular business hours.

Some 110 poets and artists participated in this year’s event by entering up to three poems each, or submitting artistic work samples. Jurors winnowed nearly 210 poems down to just 26. Other jurors selected 26 artists from those who entered. For this exhibit, each selected artist chooses one selected poem from which to create an artwork. Poems and the work they inspired are displayed together.

The 50 participating poets and artists come from around Minnesota, including three from Zumbrota and others from Rochester, Minneapolis, Faribault, Wabasha and elsewhere; two are from Iowa and one each from North Dakota and Wisconsin.

The exhibit can be viewed during regular open hours, at no charge. Crossings is open MTWF 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Crossings’ 12th Annual Poet-Artist Collaboration — April 19

Mike-Schad-Li-Bai-Celebrate National Poetry Month! Come to the Gala Reception for Crossings' 12th Annual Poet-Artist Collaboration on Friday, April 19. The evening begins at 6:30 at Crossings at Carnegie, 320 East Ave, Zumbrota. There you can meet the artists and poets and enjoy refreshments. Then join the party as it moves down the block to the State Theatre at 7:30 for a poetry reading and slideshow of the accompanying artwork.

Some 150 poets and artists participated in this year’s event by entering up to three poems each, or submitting artistic work samples. Jurors winnowed nearly 300 poems down to just 26. Other jurors halved the artistic pool to match the number of poems. For this exhibit, each selected artist then chose one selected poem from which to create an artwork. Poems and the work they inspired are displayed together.

“The response this year was almost overwhelming, and we’re gratified to see so many talented people participating in our event. Poet-Artist Collaboration holds a special place in our hearts and never fails to produce lovely and surprising results as art and poetry intertwine,” said Crossings owner Marie Marvin.

The public is invited and admission is free.

The 51 participating poets and artists come from around Minnesota, including Rochester, Minneapolis, Northfield, Wabasha and elsewhere; two are from Wisconsin.

The State Theatre is located at 96 East 4th Street in Zumbrota. For more information visit http://www.crossingsatcarnegie.com

It’s All One Water

We swim in it, boat on it, bathe in it. We cry it, consume it and are comprised of it. In winter, we even walk on it. Water is both elemental and functional; we harness the humbling power of its waterfalls and rivers to power our lives, yet in one single weather event it can destroy all we have built. Crossings asked photographers and writers to share what water means to them for this exhibit.

"It's All One Water" is a collection of 28 photographs and 28 written pieces (both prose and poetry) on display through the month of October at Crossings. Join us for a reception on Friday, October 19, at 7 pm at Crossings to view the photographs and enjoy refreshments. Then move with us next door to the State Theatre for the readings and a slideshow of the photographs.

Participants were invited to explore whatever aspects of water fascinate them and create their own artistic expression of this most basic foundation for life. Photographers and writers from around the region share their work in this intriguing exhibit produced in collaboration with the Zumbro Watershed Partnership.

This project was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
