Martin Zellar & The Hardways
UPDATE: Martin has decided to bring The Hardways, instead of just performing solo!
Martin Zellar, one of Minnesota’s own alt-country/rock musicians, is performing his honky tonk-inspired music at the State Theatre on Sat., May 12.
Immediately after graduation from high school in Austin, MN, Zellar moved to the Twin Cities and joined Nick Ciola, guitarist Randy Broughten, and drummer and fellow songwriter James "Billy" Dankert as the Gear Daddies. The band enjoyed much regional and some national success, and released three albums. They amicably parted ways in 1992. Martin went on to record and perform as a solo artist and with his band The Hardways. That’s what he continues to do, and he still has fun.
“...writers from Dylan to Springsteen, often tell us far more about the human condition by concentrating on life’s everyday moments. That’s the strength of Martin Zellar...” - Robert Hillburn, Los Angeles Times“...he writes songs with a nakedness, perhaps, or lack of pretentiousness that’s particularly convincing.” - Gina Arnold, Creem Magazine
Martin lives in Mexico with his wife and children. He returns each year to share fan favorites and new music with his Midwest audiences.
