Claudia Schmidt has been perfecting her craft of performing for almost four decades. It is a quirky and wonderful hodge-podge (her word!) of music, poetry, story, laughter. drama, and celebrating the moment. Work in clubs, theaters, festivals, TV, radio has added depth and dimension, and since she has always included her original work along with very personal versions of the work of others, what you get is a unique look at the world from someone who says what she sees with clarity, humor, and wonder. The San Francisco Bay Guardian said: Schmidt's shows are a lot like falling in love. You never know what's going to happen next, chances are it's going to be wonderful, every moment is burned into your memory and you know you'll never be the same again." More succinctly, Garrison Keillor said "when Claudia sings a song, it stays sung"

California Dreamin’ – The Songs of Laurel Canyon
Laurel Canyon is a neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills region of the Santa Monica Mountains. The creative flowering that grew out of this section of Los Angeles in the 1960s and early 1970s produced some of the greatest music of that era, changing the culture and the lives of some of rock and roll’s most gifted artists. Imagine living down the road from Joni Mitchel or just upstairs from Jackson Browne. Imagine if all you had to do on a weekend night was walk down the street and you were at someone’s house and they had a guitar and a piano … and their name was Neil Young, or Graham Nash, or Glen Frey. Imagine if your neighbors were musicians who were starting bands called The Doors, The Byrds, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Monkees, The Eagles, and The Mamas and Papas.
Veteran singers Mary Jane Alm, Boyd Lee, Aimée Lee, Paul Frantzich and Tim Frantzich, along with a stellar lineup of musicians will walk you through the streets of this magical place and time. You will hear the stories of some of your favorite musicians. Your memory will be flooded with songs from The Association, The Turtles, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, James Taylor, Buffalo Springfield, Brian Wilson, The Jefferson Airplane, and more … all who resided in this beautiful bubble of creativity, friendship, sunshine, and music.
This show brings together what happened in this magical place when it was just the right time, just the right space, with just the right musicians … in a very special moment in time that created the songs of Laurel Canyon.

Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and their group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment, Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head, and sparks fly.[read more…]

Jimmi and the Band of Souls is an award-winning blues band with members from both Minneapolis and Rochester. One of their guitarists, Tom Kochie, was just voted into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame.
Their performances are high energy and full of soul and passion. They play boogie-woogie. They play slow and lonely. They play toe tappin’, deep groovin’, and hard drivin’. You won't want to sit still when they start to play.
The six-piece band brings a host of diversity too: Electric guitar, slide guitar, acoustic guitar, harmonica, saxophone, bass, drums, and congas. It’s a full sound that changes in tone and timbre with every song. They are meant to be seen and, once you have, they won't be forgotten.

After Crosby, Stills and Nash made their debut at Woodstock, they were joined by the already-becoming-legendary Neil Young to create the landmark 1970 album "Deja Vu". With hits like "Carry On", "Our House" and "Teach Your Children" to counter-culture anthems like "Almost Cut My Hair" to the haunting melody of "Helpless", it's a truly unique piece of rock'n roll history.
The Collective Unconscious, with their 22 years as a vocal trio and their groove-based rhythm section, fit this album like a glove. With precision and soul, CU plays the album front to back in front of your eyes, letting you experience the album in an exciting new way, all while staying true to the album’s sound and style.
Join Jeff Engholm, Muggsy Lauer, Nathan Nesje, George Maurer, Scott Chabot, and Erin Vork for the epic journey of Crosby Stills Nash and Young's "Deja Vu" all over again!

"The music of John Denver is timeless and well known. The "Tribute to the Music of John Denver" by the Layne Yost Group is a faithful performance of songs and stories that capture and pay homage to the music and the man. A wonderful show that will take you back and remind you of simple things that remain true."
Jon Shimoda on bass and Carol McDowall on fiddle accompany Yost’s pure vocals and guitar playing in this homage to the music and the man. They capture the simple soul of Denver's music. Woven within the music are stories that give insight into Denver's life and legacy.
Denver is best known for songs like, “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Annie’s Song,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” and “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” along with other hits. A common theme in his lyrics was his enjoyment of the natural world. He was one of the most popular and best-selling acoustic artists of the 1970s, and his songs were hits on several charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, country and western, and adult contemporary. He earned four platinum albums and 12 gold albums during his career.[read more…]

From the filmmaking duo who created Visions of Home (featuring Heather Neill) and A Painter Who Farms (featuring Allen Whiting), comes The Power of Stone, a documentary film featuring island artist Lew French premiering at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society’s 9th annual Documentary Week Festival.
About the film: The Power of Stone offers a glimpse into the life of the renowned stone artist, Lew French, during the time he was working to create the Rose Styron Garden for the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. At first, Lew French appears as unyielding as the granite he works with, but beneath this artist’s rigid exterior is a deeply spiritual soul. Though he wakes up at 4 am to meditate every day, Lew struggles to quiet his mind. In stone, Lew finds that which he longs for: stillness. As one friend put it, “Don’t be tricked by the idea that he’s a stone mason. He’s sort of a philosopher, artist, spiritual guide who’s working with stone.”[read more…]
