Come support the participants of this two week musical theatre camp as they perform in this rollicking take on those fabulous ditties that taught children of the 1970s how a bill becomes a law and conjunctions function. SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! is a stage adaptation of the animated television series that debuted in 1973.

Taught by Daved Driscoll and other members of the Words Players Theater Troupe from Rochester.

The cast of eight includes Brian Adams, Ronda Anderson-Sand, Tomine Erredge, JC Koepsell, Lori Rauen, Aaron Schumacher, Stephanie Schumacher, and Kim Simonson, all of Zumbrota. Orchestra members are Anne Solberg, Charlie O’Brien and Dylon Starr. Sandra Hennings Miller of Byron, Minn. directs the production.

John Gorka & Michael Johnson — June 28

These two Folk music legends will take the stage at the State Theatre, playing their own sets, but don't be surprised if they perform a couple of duets!

With a brand-new album out, “Bright Side of Down,” John Gorka is widely regarded as “one of contemporary folk music’s leading talents” (Vintage Guitar). It’s the first studio album in more than four years for the singer/songwriter known for his wry take on the human condition.

His unique sound and lyrical insight have earned him generations of devoted fans and a career that’s found him gracing the stages of PBS’ Austin City Limits, NPR’s Mountain Stage and venues worldwide. His music tells stories, expresses deep emotion, and invites listeners to reflect. The audience is drawn right in to the heart of the music by Gorka’s remarkable baritone voice and the clear tones of his guitar.

Michael Johnson, who incidentally lent his vocals to Gorka’s latest album, will perform his music the same night. Johnson’s latest album, “Moonlit Déjà Vu” came out in 2012.

Johnson’s music is more varied than those who know him only from his pop music – “Bluer than Blue,” and “That’s That,” for example – might guess. He also has had number one hits in country and R&B, all graced by the warmth in his voice even as his style evolved. The singer and fingerstyle guitarist delivers acoustic masterpieces in every performance.

By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years younger, inadvertently becomes a stowaway.

Released in 2009 and one of the last new release films to be shown at the State Theatre, this animated family film features the voice talents of Edward Asner and Christopher Plummer.

Auditions! “The Circus of Terror” — June 7 and 9

"The Circus of Terror" is an original musical-comedy-murder-mystery written by Luke Davidson and Jonathan Horn. First produced at Perpich Center for the Arts High School last May, the show has been revised and revamped for it's State Theatre debut this August.

“Bingo! The Winning Musical” is an off-Broadway piece of musical theatre based on grandma’s favorite form of gambling. In between the number calling, strange rituals and fierce competitions, love blossoms and long lost friends reunite.

The cast includes six females ages 20-60 and one adult male, all singing roles. Auditions will involve singing; participants are asked to bring a prepared song and sheet music for the accompanist or may bring their own accompanist.

Sandra Miller of Byron, Minn., will direct the production. Rehearsals begin June 2.

Community volunteers are appreciated in any aspect of the production, including set construction, costuming, stage crew, publicity, ticket sales and ushers.

The musical is presented by Z-Theatre and the Zumbrota Area Arts Council (ZAAC) by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Terry Lee Goffee — May 23

Crossings brings Terry Lee Goffee to Zumbrota's State Theatre for "The Ultimate Tribute to Johnny Cash" on Friday, May 23 at 8 pm.

Terry Lee Goffee has been a Johnny Cash fan since he was 8 years old. His long-running admiration for the music and the man is apparent in his performance as Cash. Goffee does more than play the music or “impersonate” Cash: like an actor in a play, he becomes his character from the moment he walks on stage until the end of the show. He plays the music so well audiences and reviewers rave. He plays the man so well, he was chosen to provide the moves for a Cash character on the Guitar Hero 5 video game.

He looks like Cash. He sounds like Cash. He moves like Cash: Nobody does Johnny Cash like Terry Lee Goffee.

Audiences will revel in 34 Cash songs, including classic such as “A Boy Named Sue,” “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” “I Walk The Line,” “Ring Of Fire, “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Hurt.”

Cash – The Man in Black – is widely considered one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. His music is primarily thought of as country, but his deep bass-baritone voice lent itself equally well to the genres of rock and roll, blues, folk, rockabilly and gospel.

He traditionally began his concerts with the simple “Hello, I'm Johnny Cash” – a signature greeting supplied by Goffee for the Guitar Hero Cash character.

Goffee says his tribute, “Sprang from my appreciation and love, not only for the music of Johnny Cash, but for the man himself. A champion of the underdog, a voice for those who often have none, an ‘outlaw’ before it became fashionable. If you come away from this presentation with a better understanding of who Johnny Cash is, I will have succeeded in my vision for this endeavor.”

Goffee’s tribute show has taken him all across the United States, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Tom Petty Tribute by Justin Ploof — May 17

Crossings brings back Justin Ploof and the Throwbacks on Saturday, May 17. This time it's "Runnin' Down a Dream: A Tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" at 8 pm at the State Theatre in Zumbrota.

With hits like “American Girl” and “Learning to Fly,” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were on the forefront of the heartland rock movement in the late 1970s and ’80s. Hear their biggest hits accompanied by film and news clips at a rockumentary tribute by Justin Ploof and the Throwbacks. They combine authentic sound with visuals that help tell the story of the Heartbreakers, a band that has sold more than 80 million records worldwide. Audiences will hear the big hits and then some!

Audiences have flocked to previous Throwbacks rockumentaries paying tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was a counterpoint to the synthesizer-based music popular in the 1980s, with a classic rock sound and working-class lyrics. Petty has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the band’s recent CD, Mojo, was released in 2010.

Justin Ploof, Jason Ploof, and Dan Ploof serve as the core members of the Throwbacks, and have a multitude of professional music experience. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Soul Asylum, Bobby Vee, Joan Jett, and Jessie Lang. Their incredible attention to detail and quality of musicianship will wow audiences from the first chord. They work to emulate the songs the way the artists meant for them to be performed.

Crossings’ 13th Annual Poet-Artist Collaboration exhibit is on display now through May 15, celebrating a pairing of the two art forms that allows poetry to inspire visual art of all kinds. Fifty poets and visual artists took part in this years’ exhibit, which can be seen free of charge during regular business hours.

Some 110 poets and artists participated in this year’s event by entering up to three poems each, or submitting artistic work samples. Jurors winnowed nearly 210 poems down to just 26. Other jurors selected 26 artists from those who entered. For this exhibit, each selected artist chooses one selected poem from which to create an artwork. Poems and the work they inspired are displayed together.

The 50 participating poets and artists come from around Minnesota, including three from Zumbrota and others from Rochester, Minneapolis, Faribault, Wabasha and elsewhere; two are from Iowa and one each from North Dakota and Wisconsin.

The exhibit can be viewed during regular open hours, at no charge. Crossings is open MTWF 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lorie Line — May 9

Crossings brings Lorie Line and Her Fab Five to Zumbrota's State Theatre on Friday, May 9 at 7:30 pm.

The 2014 Intimate Evening Series

This 20-city series marks Line’s 25th year of touring. This spring she’s bringing her young, hip and cool “Fab Five” with her to share music celebrating her quarter-century as a touring musician. Besides sharing all her favorites from the past 25 years, Line will perform solo piano arrangements from her brand new book, “The Early Years.”

Line’s band includes Robbie Nordstrom on violin; Drew Moore on bass; Marcus Farrow on drums; Mike Linden on guitar and Derek Bromme on trombone and euphonium.

Line noted, “Surrounding myself with the best players possible makes making music so much more fun, and after touring all these years, I know how important that is . . . I'm now doing it these days to have fun.”

Known mainly for her holiday extravaganza, she has been branching out these past eight years and developing her intimate series.

Line’s CDs have sold more than 6 million copies. She’s the owner of one of the largest independent record labels, Lorie Line Music. She’s published over 30 books of music so others can play her arrangements of popular pieces as well as her original works.

Line and her husband/tour manager, Tim Line, live in Orono, Minnesota. but tour year-round, playing to 100,000 people on more than 85 stages annually. Lorie Line puts her personal stamp on everything, from color themes and graphic design to the one-of-a-kind breathtaking gowns and costumes she wears and set design.
